My life closed twice before its close— It yet remains to see If Immortality unveil A third event to me So huge, so hopeless to conceive As these that twice befell. Parting is all we know of heaven, And all we need of hell. Emily Dickinson  We make many assumptions, just to get us through each day. Perhaps the most necessary is our bland assumption of life itself.  We go to bed at night with our alarms set and food... Read more

Elon Musk gave a straight up Nazi salute at last Monday’s presidential inauguration. True to MAGA form, he then said it was something else … a “Roman salute” or some other inanity. That’s just their standard lying.  They do it to give their whore preachers and MAGA faithful an “out.” That way they can say, “He didn’t mean it. He just says that. It wasn’t really a Nazi salute,” — and all the rest of the ridiculous lying that Trump’s... Read more

November 5, 2024 was a watershed election. Historians will look back on this pivotal moment and rehash it for generations to come.  Pundits and podcasters have worked themselves into a lather “explaining” why so many Americans voted to be ruled by greed-driven billionaires, liars, traitors, sexual predators and kings. The finger-pointing and blame-assessing has gone on for weeks. I’ve heard one fantastical explanation after another. In all this talking, theorizing, nit-picking, accusing, abusing and excusing, I have not heard one... Read more

It appears that the laws of this land only apply to you and me.  Quite a number of America’s billionaires are in the process of demonstrating to the world that they serve no god except their own greed, and obey no law other than their own cruelty. It appears that they see America, the country that gave them everything they have, as something for their greed to bleed dry. As for you and me; it appears that we are just... Read more

I don’t say this about every politician, but I have no doubt that Jimmy Carter was welcomed home to heaven. The first thing I thought when I heard he had died, was “I’m glad for him.”  I think he went straight into the light and love that is God. I think he heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”  Jimmy Carter did many good things during his long life. His Camp David Accord achieved the only lasting peace... Read more

Christians who enjoy being outraged have found another target for their hysterics.  This year’s Olympics used a tableau in the opening ceremonies that looked like a debauched version of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting of the Last Supper. The official “explanation” is that this tableau is actually a depiction of a Bacchanalian revel that just coincidentally resembles da Vinci’s painting.  I have no idea why a bacchanal with its emphasis on excess and debauchery, would be appropriate for the opening of... Read more

“He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, Peace. Be still.  Suddenly the wind stopped and there was a great calm.  Then He asked them Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?  Mark 4: 38-40 My boys loved it when I read the story of Jesus calming the sea to them when they were little. We would stand up and say “the waves went up!!” then drop to our seats and say “the waves went down!!.”... Read more

Looking at America’s Catholic bishops from far outside and with zero insider information, I can say that they appear to be split into two camps.  One camp, the ascendant and apparently controlling group, are the buddies — dare I say operatives? — of extremist billionaires. You might call them the lions.  The other camp, the gobsmacked, blithering, can’t-quite-figure-out-that-they-are-nose-to-nose-with-evil-incarnate group, are the bishops who still think that the 10 Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes are, well, commandments... Read more

One of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out. John 19: 34 I can’t provide an erudite theological understanding of the Sacred Heart. In fact, the Sacred Heart as a concept has always confused me. I know that Jesus’ heart was pierced by a soldier’s sword after He died on the Cross and a mixture of blood and water flowed out of it.  I have read that this break down of blood... Read more

You don’t have to agree with Joe Biden’s politics to feel compassion for him as he faces another tragedy in his life.  In this day and age, so many of us can recognize our own family in the tragedy of drug addiction which overtook his son Hunter. Many of us have known the suffering of watching someone we love get sucked down the hole of that raw evil.  I have watched helplessly while someone I love destroyed their life with... Read more
